Hacesfalta is one of the largest Spanish-speaking platforms for volunteering and NGO jobs, where you can find volunteer offers, jobs in NGOs or internships anywhere in the world.
The program in which I am participating is called "volunteering in turtle camps" which aims to contribute to the conservation and recovery of populations of sea turtle species that arrive to the coasts of Quintana Roo, monitor and protect loggerhead and white turtles that come up to lay their eggs on the beaches of the Central Coast of Quintana Roo, Our stay is in a camp in Playa del Carmen, a coordinator was in charge of assigning them, these are located in strategic points of the coast, from which 14 nesting beaches are protected.
Throughout our stay we have carried out different activities such as:
- Analyzing the clutches, cleaning them, and counting the hatchlings.
- During the day we have visited the beaches where there are no activities at night.
- Identify, mark and clean the clutches that have already hatched.
- Attendance to work meetings, work meetings in which we will participate.
- Participation in environmental education activities, since during these nesting seasons there are both national and foreign tourists visiting the different camps.
- Participate in the registration of nesting females as part of the protection activities.
- Collect data on the characteristics of the turtles, mark them and measure them.
